Change is happening. You can’t avoid it. The economy is fluctuating, there is an ongoing battle to reconfigure the regulatory landscape, and the marketplace keeps shifting as new players get into the game and established players enter new markets. However, the most profound changes we are seeing are being driven by technology – the digital platform is opening up new channels, … [Read more...]
I Had A Dream (Apple Television Update 2)
So, back in 2008, I wrote a post about a dream I had where I was interacting with my television through a tablet device that controlled and augmented the content on the screen. Remember that this post pre-dated the launch of the iPad, so it's interesting to see how things have been developing. This fall, I read the Steve Jobs biography and read the part where he said he had … [Read more...]
Making A Dent
I was at the inaugural gathering of ConvergeUS, an initiative to use technology to improve the world in some small measure, when I heard the news of Steve Jobs' passing. Biz Stone delivered a nice message to the group to use the gathering as an effort to celebrate the desire to make a dent in the universe, rather than to mourn the passing of someone who strove to do … [Read more...]
Innovation: Finding your Voice
I read a post today over at 15inno.com listing 5 Reasons Not to Use Apple As a Role-Model for Innovation. While it's hard to argue with the points made in the article (You're not Apple, You don't even know Apple, People don't think you're as cool as Apple, You don't have Steve Jobs), it comes off as a little to Fanboy-ish - even for me. But, it did get me thinking... Is … [Read more...]
The Immovable User Meets Irresistible Design
There's a nice article over at all tech considered about the symbiotic relationship between Steve Jobs and Jonathan Ive. Ive has designed Apple products since the fruit colored iMacs, and Steve Jobs is, well... Steve Jobs. The article describes the intimate working relationship between Jobs an Ive since The Steve returned to Apple in 1992. The big takeaway from the … [Read more...]
I Had a Dream (Update)
Back in June of 2008, I wrote a post detailing a vision I had for Apple tech working with television for enhanced viewing. Well, ABC Television just released the My Generation Sync app for iPad which behaves pretty much how I imagined it. The video does a better job of explaining it than I can: Of technical interest is how the app syncs with the show. It uses the … [Read more...]
Apple HTML5 Showcase
Apple has added a showcase of HTML5 functionality on their site. It's a pretty impressive display. However, you're limited to Safari for viewing options. As HTML5 continues to get rolled out as a standard, creating rich web experiences will get a whole lot easier. I just hope that the uncomfortable period where you need to maintain two approaches (HTML5 and Old School) … [Read more...]
Why Apple Rulez!
So, "Welcome to Macintosh" was just playing on CNBC. I was cleaning up from the dual birthday party for both of my kids, so I left it on. All in all, it's maybe a bit too simplistic and a bit too reverent of the fruit company from Cupertino, but it made some valid points. The most important point it made was that "Apple doesn't compare itself to another company." I think … [Read more...]
